In the Bolgheri region, based on the Bordeaux model but with a unique pioneering look, international grapes are stand out in the skyline of the regional vineyard. The great legends of the territory are in fact the fruit of these new and far-sighted system. But they are also the result of a principle that, from Bolgheri, began to lay down the law elsewhere: that is, the idea that the union of several vines in the same wine is not guarded by ancestral and unchanging traditions, but are an art that the sensitive hands of the oenologist-wine-grower-taster are able to forge in perfect harmony.
What does the Bolgheri and the Maremma experience given us fifty years after the first experiments? It gives us, in addition to a very strong technical knowledge of the selection of grapes, the awareness that, even if destined for the same wine, different vines should preferably be grown on different plots, which enhance the peculiarities of each.
And it gives us the awareness that each vine, as the bearer of a decisive fraction of the personality of the wine, deserves specific attention in the cellar too: with dedicated refinement, destined to a subsequent blend, or with an accurate study of the organoleptic qualities of the grape in the expression of the specific vintage. The vegetal and tannic rigour of the Cabernet thus works with the velvety body of a Merlot, the austere and scratchy freshness of the Sangiovese, the sacred cow of the region, finds an ideal companion in Syrah's round and exotic aromaticity. The result is grapes which, chiselled into the equilibrium of combinations by contrast, have left their mark on the history of this magical area.

Red. Donna Olimpia 1898 Costa Toscana, Italy Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc
Bottle: 8.53 € club members / 9.80 € non-members
Grapes in which Cabernet Sauvignon is the master, with about 70% of the mass, Tageto is a Costa Toscana of a beautiful garnet colour with transparent and lively ruby echoes, a clear sign of the youthfulness of the product. A certain vinosity is perceptible in its bouquet, with vivid scents of strawberry, raspberry and sour cherry combined with a deeper subtext of peppers, son of Cabernet, chocolate and liquorice, the product of the gentle roasting of Merlot.
On the palate too its youthfulness is noted, in perfect consistency with the bouquet. Thanks to the delicate aroma of Petit Verdot, it is pleasant and immediate, with good structure and appreciable roundness. The tannin, well integrated and of a certain sweetness, completes the picture of a wine which is carefree, versatile and perfect with friend and family, without skimping seconds on persistence, excellent and taste.

Management has always paid particular attention to this fascinating place, exalting in every way the nature of a land particularly suited to the production of great red wines. Argentiera, at the southern end of the denomination, is also the estate closest to the sea of all Bolgheri and the one that reaches its maximum altitude developing from the plains to the hills. Its vineyards are completely surrounded by green Mediterranean vegetation and the countryside on which the estate stands is bordered by avenues of ancient maritime pines and olive trees in an evocative landscape full of intense aromas. The land, of various compositions, is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah.
From sandy and silty soils of medium texture, less than 100 metres above sea level, Poggio ai Ginepri is the result of the separate vinification of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot grapes extracted with a soft pressing. A wine suited to the harmony between elegance and concentration, this Bolgheri DOC represents a rather youthful and snappy interpretation of the international mixed vintage from which it derives. With its frank and direct bouquet, it is an authentic Bordeaux wine of great breed, with a decisive component of Cabernet (40% Sauvignon and 20% Franc) which provides particularly intense and enveloping notes, along with hints of red fruit, jams and undergrowth. On the palate the fraction of Merlot (30%) is felt with a pleasant and persuasive softness, accompanied by high intensity and a surprising minerality.

Red. Morisfarms Maremma Toscana, Italy Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah
Bottle: 27.19 € club members / 35.00 € non-members
The production focuses on Morellino di Scansano and Vermentino from the Tuscan coast, but since 1988 Avvoltore has been added, a wine-experiment from the Poggio Avvoltore estate. From 25-year-old vines planted on very skeletal clayey-calcareous soils, Avvoltore owes its name to the bird of prey that usually rests in flight above the vineyards (vulture). Avvoltore is the fruit of the futuristic blend of Sangiovese, a small portion of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon which is typical of the great Maremma: a successful experiment, which is confirmed from vintage to vintage as among the best Supertuscans on the market.
A wine of great breed in terms of power and extract, but also due to its innate elegance, Avvoltore is ruby in colour with bright but concentrated violet reflections. The bouquet is complex, with hints of blackberry and blueberry jam, currant, rose hip, china, incense, rhubarb, cardamom, liquorice, and even wood, toasting and peat. A very ample range, which is at the same time fruity, balsamic and spicy, and which is echoed by an opulent, full-bodied, slender, savoury taste, enveloping due to its softness and the beautiful velvety sensation of the powerful tannins. Persistent and exceptionally long-lived, it is excellent paired with great roasts, stewed meat, aged and flavoursome cheeses.
