The wine

Col d'Orcia has contributed very actively in creating the Rosso di Montalcino category. In the early 70s, Count Marone Cinzano had the inspiration to bottle a young Sangiovese to drink every day during meals. Other local producers soon followed suit and in 1983 Rosso di Montalcino became a DOC wine by means of a decree of the President of the Italian Republic.

Rosso di Montalcino is today a classic wine, made with pure Sangiovese grapes, which comes out one year after the harvest in order to maintain all the freshness and fruitfulness of a young wine but at the same time the intensity of that terroir that only Montalcino is capable of transmitting.

Intense ruby red with violet reflections. Ample and fruity on the nose, with the typical hints of small ripe red fruits, blackberry and cyclegy, in balance with the spices donated by the oak. Well structured wine, with soft and ripe tannins. It has a long, persistent and pleasantly fruity aftertaste.

After the presentation of the first Brunellos in 1933, the Fattoria was split into two separate estates, Il Poggione, still active, and, indeed, Col d’Orcia. And, in 1973, with the change of ownership to the Cinzanos,...
