The wine

Environmental commitment and uncompromising quality are the key ideas of the Tasca family, one of the most historic and at the same time innovative of Sicilian wine. Tasca d'Almerita is one of those few but noble wineries that have marked the rebirth of Sicilian wine on the Italian and international wine scene. A family that, starting from the historic Regaleali estate in the hinterland of Palermo, has cared for its vineyards with dedication and respect for eight generations.

Of the five Tasca d'Almerita estates, Regaleali is the oldest, the one where everything began. The Tasca brothers bought it in 1830: it is an island of green in the centre of Sicily, in the ancient Contea of Sclafani, Regaleali, an almost 600-hectare estate, 12 different types of soil, 6 hills between 450 and 850 metres above sea level, which should be seen as a region in its own right, a "monopole" to be deeply studied and understood. All the wines, starting from the famous Rosso del Conte, come from a single vineyard or from several vineyards, however, within the same estate.

The estate's firstborn, Nero d'Avola, comes from numerous plots. For over sixty harvests, Nero d'Avola has been telling the story of the more tense, subtle and qualitative hillside Nero d'Avola. Despite being an entry-level wine, 50% of its mass matures in large Slavonian oak barrels of 30 and 60 hl for about six months; the other half ages in steel. Brilliant, intense ruby red in colour, the nose expresses the typical warm, fruity and intriguing notes of the variety, with hints of black cherry, jammy cherry, blueberry, and with echoes of aromatic herbs and sweet spices. A silky tannin and velvety approach stand out on the palate, which, however, remains fresh, harmonious and warmly aromatic. A fruity DNA that is also the hallmark of its pleasant persistence.
