The wine

The property owned by Tenute Cisa Asinari dei Marchesi di Grésy comprises four vineyard estates in the north-west of Italy, situated between the Langhe and Monferrato regions: Martinenga, Monte Aribaldo, La Serra and Monte Colombo. All have belonged to the Grésy family since 1797, although they didn't embark upon their wine-producing enterprise until two centuries later, in 1973.

Martinenga is not only the winery's largest parcel, but also its mainstay. The vineyard's features, with its picturesque setting in the shape of a natural amphitheatre, its southern exposure to the sun and location on soils rich in blue marl (a mixture composed of clay with some limestone), turn out ideal for cultivating the Nebbiolo variety. It brings forth a premier class Barbaresco of exceptional finesse.

In the estate's installations, fitted out with the most modern equipment for high quality production, Martinenga also provides wine-making facilities for the property's other wines and bestows upon them the house's distinctive elegance and personality. In the winery, traditional methods of production are employed, such as long macerations aimed at extracting all the tannicity which makes the Barbaresco a unique and unmistakable wine.

The Martinenga Barbaresco is a delightfully delicate wine that's a classic garnet-red colour in appearance. On the nose, its multi-faceted bouquet features varietal notes of red fruits and flowers which are followed by others of rhubarb, liquorice and mint on a subtle mineral background. It glides on the palate with as much grace and refinement as intensity, showing freshness, and firm tannins portending a long life. To sum up, the best finish you could ever wish for from an excellent quality Nebbiolo: an elegant, fine, delicate, harmonious and seductive wine. From the first to the very last drop.
