The bottled 2023 Benje, which has 9% Listán Blanco and 1% Tintilla grapes to complement the Listán Prieto, comes from a very warm and dry year in Santiago del Teide when the vines got blocked and suffered a lot, as they also did in 2019. With the experience from that year, they did a softer vinification, with shorter macerations and extraction. Here, it was an even warmer and earlier year than 2022, with more immediate wines, approachable and open from the very beginning. It's floral, aromatic and expressive, fine-boned and harmonious, with good freshness. 18,000 bottles and 250 magnums produced. It was bottled in May 2024.

Racé et d'une grand buvabilité
Le terroir volcanique est souvent flagrant lors que l'on goute un vin blanc de Lanzarote ou de Santorin. Sur les rouges, les notes minerales et fumées typiques sont plus subtilement melées aux notes fruités et empyreumatiques du vin, et c'est le cas dans cette cuvée. Le vin est ainsi puissant, tout en donnant une sensation de légèreté et d'envie d'en reboire. Une bouteille élégante, à l'aise sur un plat type canard roti, au cours d'un repas chargé où l'on apprécie une fraicheur et une buvabilité?
Delicious but...
...considering it comes from the brilliant guys from Envínate, a bit of a let down. It is flavourful, refreshing and delicate, but was very shy, almost under-energised, for at least three ours, and once it opened, stayed almost exactly the same over two days, without developing any complexity. This is a newly acquired vineyard (of ancient vines) in Tenerife, so it will probably take them a while to get to know its whims but, at this stage, I do prefer their Taganan line-up.
